Wot we have been up to in Beijing

Since arriving in Beijing on 29th July we have:

  • Cycled around a lot (see first post)
  • Tried to eat our way around China's many regions (see upcoming post)
  • Been to the Forbidden City, Summer Palace and other city sights
  • Taken an overnight sleeper train to Xi'an, seen the terracotta warriors, taken an overnight sleeper train back
  • Done a four hour walk along a remote (and precarious) section of the Great Wall
  • Been to the 798 Art District and other galleries
  • Seen an acrobatics show so amazing it made me almost cry
  • Waved a union jack at the road side for the women's road cycling race (which I like to think made all the difference)
  • Lolled around the flat a lot with no clothes on, taking cold showers, using lots of talcum powder and complaining about the heat
  • Fretted about our bikes and how to get them to Vietnam

Great to hear from you. I've been watching the Olympics in the morning whilst practising guitar. Did wonder if you might have been at the road race. Saw someone quite like Hannah in the crowd on News at Ten the other night. Thought of you often as commentators mentioned the heat and humidity! Looking forward to reading more as your adventure unfolds. Night night Deirdre xxxx

Ladies, since you're there in Beijing anyway, maybe you could win us all a gold medal in one of the cycling events before you go off to Vietnam. Between the two of you should be able to manage at least a bronze I would think. Would look nice up in the kitchen next to the pots.

What is the plan now for getting the cycles to Vietnam?

Is the food AMAZING???!?!?!

STOP PRESS: AMAZING NEWS!

The London 2012 organising committee, in conjunction with the IOC are pleased to announce that the following events are to be added to the Olympic programme for London:

1. Binge eating – Gold medal going to the individual who eats the greatest weight of food in a single sitting. (Note that there will be several different bodyweight classes, to level the playing field – but it is permissible to enter several different classes and progress upwards through them throughout the course of the competition).

2. Mosquito bite collection – bites marked my number, pussiness, scar potential and location.

3. Projectile vomiting/diarrhoea – points awarded for distance and style. There will also be a synchronised event for pairs (much like the diving, but thankfully not held in a swimming pool).

I recon you two have a serious chance of bringing home a medal for team GB in London! Get in hard training during this trip, and be sure to post photos of your achievements on this blog. I've heard rumours that Clive Woodward spotted your potential some time ago, and is checking this blog on a daily basis. He is apparently particularly encouraged by Hannah's previous binge-eating performances, and Zoe's spectacular 'performance' on a previous Indonesia trip.

Get in training, and good luck! Go team GB!

annex to london 2012's comment. once u r on your bikes in the country, wot about a league table for seeing copulating cows and horses. also keep a tally on how many disabled orphans you mow down, and vomiting children of all types.
